A day in the rooms

  • A father leaving as a smiling toddler is welcomed at the classroom door
    Early morning

    Arrival

A teacher greets each child at the room door, in Somali or English, and you pass on the news from home.

  • Children making torn-paper collages at a table with a teacher standing behind them
    Mid-morning

    Play and learning

Paper, paint and clay at low tables, then circle time with songs and a story.

  • Children's hands sharing fruit and snacks from lunch boxes on a table, seen from above
    Midday

    Lunch at the table

Everyone washes hands and sits down together. The food is halal, and the older children serve themselves.

  • A quiet nap room with a row of bare cots and a caregiver standing at the window
    Early afternoon

    Rest

Infants sleep on their backs in their own cots with nothing else in the cot. Older children rest on cots in their room, and a teacher stays with them.

  • Preschoolers laughing while digging in a sandbox
    Mid-afternoon

    Outside

Sandbox, tricycles and a fenced yard, with layers and boots in winter.

  • A grandmother greeting her granddaughter at the yard gate at pickup
    Late afternoon

    Pickup

A teacher walks each child to you. We release a child only to the people on your list.
